Llanymynech Horse Trials August 2016
This was the first time for me at this event for some years, and what a fantastic event it has become! It was an extremely friendly and relaxed atmosphere and this was felt by the riders. The Riders were all polite and well behaved the event was well organised and easy going. The Volunteers were incredibly well looked after and to be honest we all had so much fun #teamworkisdreamwork .
The Saturday started well , the early morning fog lifted and the event was soon up and running. BE90 including the KBIS 4yo sections were first to go followed by a couple of BE1
00 sections later in the afternoon. Lower House Equine kindly sponsored the sections which saw over 200 horses and riders compete including Carlos Parro who had just returned from competing in Rio 2016 Olympics for Brazil.
Section A of the BE90 saw Francesca Fitzherbert take the win on Mrs Caroline Hurts Monbeg eclipse.
This is only is second event and is actually his second win as he won at Aston le walls, we are so pleased as he used to be really naughty and stand on his back legs all the time, so he come a long way We are now going to aim to qualify for the Badminton grass roots final
Laura Ridout took the win in Section B of the BE90 on her own Cooledge Sox who she has owned for 6-7year he completed on his dressage score of 27.5.
He is very consistent and this is his third win on the trot, but he keeps me awake in the showjumping as he can find things quite spooky
Vicky Smith won Section C the last section of BE90 on Charmay Prout’s Hannas Melody. The ride was given to vicky due to Charmay falling pregnant. Hannas Melody was purchased from Team Hankey in 2015 and both the owner and Vicky train with Richard Carruthers.
This was my 3rd event riding him and he was 6th at Solihull horse trials last week he would have been placed at bold heath had I not missed a showjump out! We both train with Richard and we have a great little support network.
The KBIS 4yo section was won by Sue Colley on her own Hendrik 24 who was purchased from DHI they completed on a score of 29.5. Sue was also a BE80T coach in the spring event at Llanymynech.
This is his third event and he has jumped double clear at all of them with an improving dressage score each time. We will now look to head to Osberton Young Horse Championships
Holly Chivers took the win in Section D of the BE100 on her own Dripshill Dream Maker. Holly is sponsored by Ocean Blue Equine and had has produced her horse herself with the help of her trainer Bryony Wilson
I have had such a lovely day and we now aim to get to Badminton Grass roots final
Emily Philp took Section E on Miss Jessica Beasley’s Mister Bond II
It was another win for Francesca Fitzherbert in section F on Conguistador II owned by herself and Mrs Caroline Hurt.
We have had ‘Bear’ since autumn last year, he has been intermediate at Kelsall and went clear but we felt we wanted to establish the partnership more before going back up to that level He also had a win two weeks ago at Aston le Walls so now we will look to move up to Novice.
To add another dimension to the horse trials Ultimate Bling had put a prize for each of the levels The competition was fierce and choosing the winner was not an easy task!
Saturday finished up in reasonable time but Sunday was soon upon us. Sunday was a much brighter and sunnier day, well for most of it anyway. The day was action packed as BE90 ,BE100 including the Mitsibushi Motors BE100 regional final was running along with a couple of Novice sections. Llanymynech runs mostly over old turf and is relatively flat with no steep hills. Uniquely all courses run from England into Wales and back again. The courses were inviting, straightforward and it was an attractively designed and well presented course which was up to height.
Section G in the BE100 was won by Abby Corlett on her own Blue River III
It has been a really lovely day we will ultimately aim to go Novice but also try and Qualify for Badminton Grass Roots Final
Section H was taken by Rider Rep Robyn Gray on Mrs Jane Phillips Litchfield Foxtrot who was previously evented by Becky Hartley this is the 5th time the horse has evented with Robyn who bases herself in Cheshire with Andrew Heffernan. The 7yo gelding was also placed at somerford park horse trials last weekend.
The Mitsibushi Motors Regional Qualifier section I was won by Zoe Kavanagh on her own Reminisce One
We bought him in January specifically to get to the Badminton Grass Roots Final We are based in Ireland and qualified at Mount Ballan we had one shot at it here at Llanymynech and I have got the place at Badminton so it will be a dream fulfilled
Section J the second section of The Mitsibushi Regional qualifier was won by Rebecca Magleave on her own Tommy Tuckeryan 8yo gelding .
We qualified at Aske last year and had the opportunity at Badminton, I was lying in second place but unfortunately I had a run out and I dropped to 37th so we are going to aim to do it right this time
Alex Hua Tian was competing on the Sunday in a novice section after also returning from Rio Olympics where he was placed 8th. Alex Took 7th place in Section K on his own Catherston Sandalwood.
The win in Section K was however taken by Hannah Jones on Miss Sue Brown’s DHI Du Rouet. Hannah is actually a full time Vet and is sponsored by Lint bells Equine
He was brought to my Mum’s livery yard as a livery, this is our first season at Novice level and our first win at this level and only his 4th or 5th Novice . We will be aiming to do a one star next year.
Lucas Pool took section M the Open Novice on the Stallion Bazaars Chief owned by Philip Wardle.
Chief has exceptional event horse breeding, his dam , grandam and great grandam have all produced sucessful horses from intermediate to 4* level. including Capuchin (placed Lexington , Badminton and Burghley) , Capstan ,Cappucino, Capulet , Caprice and Cap That , as well as promising young horses Bazaars Fizgig , Cap in hand and Captivate. Chief has been very popular at stud, his foals really are very special inheriting both his quality and exceptional temperament. Chief has over 150 FP points and 45 BE points , proving to be very consistent in all 3 phases. He actually won the one star at Brand hall this year and has now moved himself into advanced level with his points
Section N was taken by Vicki Lowe on her own Ava II who she only bought last year.
This is my second event with me and my sat nav didnt work properly at Bold heath and it cost me third place. I was 7th this year at Badminton Grass roots with another horse so would like to aim for the BE100 grass roots
Dean Price took Section O on Mr David Jagger’s Nic Silver.
Originally he came as a hunt livery and we thought we would try him at eventing, this is his first season out and he has been placed every time so we will aim him for the Grass roots
Wendy Mcgarry took the last Section on Mrs Tracey Crane’s Hugo Hunting.
To finish up I would like to say a big thank you to Jonathan and Hazel Radford who allow this lovely event to take place and to Andrew Chadwick and Jonathan Radford for organising such a fantastic horse trials .
There is a multitude of people behind the scenes making these events possible along with lots of volunteers so a massive thank you to all of those guys!
We hope the event was enjoyed by all and hope to see you at Llanymynech in 2017!! Good Luck for the rest of the 2016 from all of us here at Stable Equestrian and Llanymynech horse trials
